Dublin in Ireland is one of the top locations to visit in Europe. Although the weather may not be great, it’s a city that’s brimming with history and culture. A popular option to explore the city is to start off in the UK, visiting London and Edinburgh, and completing the journey in Dublin. If you’re short on time but you want to see as much as possible, a lot of visitors choose this option. While you’re in Dublin, it can be difficult to know where to start. There’s a lot to see and do, and you don’t have all the time in the world. Try some of the recommendations below to have a great time in Ireland’s capital.
Stay in a Boutique Hotel
Ireland and Dublin both have a rich history, but they can be trendy and up to date too. When you’re booking your accommodation, don’t forget to consider the modern boutique hotels. Check out a booking site like Venere hotels and you’ll find some beautiful places to stay. Whether you want young and fresh or cozy and traditional, you’ll find somewhere suitable for you.
Visit St Patrick’s Cathedral
Whenever you visit most cities in Europe, a visit to the cathedral is a must. They’re usually at least a few hundred years old, and amazing feats of architecture. Dublin’s cathedral is named after the country’s patron saint, and it’s Ireland’s largest church. Originating in the twelfth century, there’s a lot of history to be found in the building. For example, Jonathan Swift, who wrote Gulliver’s Travels, is buried here. You might be able to catch a choir concert at the cathedral too.
Enjoy the National Gallery of Ireland
Art lovers should head to Ireland’s national gallery, where you’ll find thousands of paintings and other works of art. Like many museums and galleries in the UK and Ireland, the entrance is free. For something that won’t cost you a penny, you get an incredible experience. You can find artworks by great Irish artists both past and present, as well as from the rest of Europe. You can also attend a workshop or documentary screening, for which admission is usually free, but you may have to turn up early or even book in advance.
Go to Phoenix Park
Phoenix Park is the largest urban enclosed park in Europe. It’s twice the size of Central Park in New York, and you’ll find an incredible array of things to do there. You can hire a bike, enjoy a drink and cake in the cafe or tea rooms, or visit the flower gardens. The park even houses Dublin Zoo and has a number of playgrounds too. For a novel way of seeing the grounds, you could take a Segway tour.
Drink a Pint of Guinness
A trip to Dublin wouldn’t be complete without trying a pint of Guinness in Ireland. Go to the Guinness Storehouse to learn about how the beer is made and get a complimentary drink at the end of the tour. It’s not cheap, but many people say it’s worth it.
Whatever you decide to do in Dublin, you’re sure to have plenty of fun. Whether you’re there to learn or to party, there’s a lot to do.
