Lots of experts have said that the housing market has been at its peak for some time now. Buying and rental properties have risen so much that many experts believe a crash is imminent. But they’ve been saying that for the past few years – so, when exactly is it going to happen?

It can be very difficult to predict a crash, especially in the property market as it very rarely happens. But one thing we can do to see if one is on its way is to look into the main reasons why they happen. Here are just a few factors to consider:

  • Increased Interest Rates – Once interest rates start to go up, mortgages become a lot more expensive. As a result, some demographics are priced out of buying their own home. As a result, there isn’t such a big demand for houses as no one can afford them. The bubble then has to burst so that prices fall and people can afford homes again.
  • The Economy Itself Bursts – If the economy is doing poorly and crashes, then this will have a very negative effect on the housing market. That’s because people lose their disposable income and, in some extreme cases, people might become unemployed. The demand for housing declines and sellers are forced to decrease house prices to make their property look a lot more attractive.
  • Too Many Houses On The Market – Once demand has been exhausted, there is no way that the leftover property will sell. Supply and demand need to be brought into equilibrium so that prices can recover.

Currently, we seem to be heading in the direction of the first bullet point – interest rates are currently fairly high and people are being priced out of buying property. Not only that, though, but prices are at such a height that many new buyers are finding it incredibly hard to get their foot on the first rung of the property ladder.

Even though the buying market seems to be on shaky ground – the factors that could lead to a crash are indeed there in the current market – it looks like the rental market is booming. After all, just look at the all the investment that is being pumped into Invitation Homes and other rental companies. But this makes sense if you think about it – people can’t afford to buy their own homes, so they are forced to stay in the rental market.

It looks like renters who would rather buy their own home are going to be in limbo for some time now or, at least, until the housing market bubble bursts. Once it does pop, though, the value of property will drastically fall, and purchasing homes should become a possibility for millennials and other young buyers. But it might be a while until we get to that point.

Until the bubble does pop, property owners will be able to sell their homes at high prices and they can continue to price young people out of owning their own home.

It looks like the housing market bubble can’t pop soon enough!

Late payments are a massive no-no when trying to improve your credit and can stay on your credit report for up to seven years. This is why it is so important to ensure that you make your payments on time, every single month. If you find that you forget to make payments on time, why not try setting up a direct debit that takes the money straight from your account and pays the other debt off? This way you don’t need to remember to do it yourself every month and will make sure that you never miss a payment.

3. Build your credit history

If you don’t have any credit, then it is a good idea to get some so that companies can see how well you pay bills and debts. Why not get a credit card with a small limit and pay it off in full each month? Or take out a phone contract that is in your name? Also make sure that you get on the electoral roll. This is often a problem that a lot of young people have regarding credit but can easily be built up with a few steps.
