Discovering Mykonos, Paros, Crete and Santorini Islands, Greece

Published

Santorini

Moving further on to my journey, I reached Santorini Island, which is considered to be the best tourist destination in the Aegean sea. If you have heard a lot about this island, but still not able to find in the official map of Greece then you must look for Thira, as Santorini is officially known as Thira.

Santorini is famous for the magnificent sunset from Oia town and stunning beaches. Santorini also hosts an active volcano, but as of now it doesn’t pose any danger to this wonderful island. Some people come to this island directly and then go back. If you are one among them then you should take a flight or high speed ferry to reach this place, else you might get sea sickness. If you are coming here like me, then ferry would be the best choice.

In Santorini, according to me, the best way to travel is by buses which are cheap (€ 1.60, € 1.80 and € 2.20) and frequent. You can also rent car for a day for about € 45. Another popular way of travelling is ATV “All Terrain Vehicle”. But do not expect them to travel on difficult terrain, they are only for roads. Another popular means is by taxi, but here taxis do not ply specially for you. In the islands, it is quite common that you will be sharing the taxi with other travelers too, though you might not be sharing the fare. All of you will have to pay full fare.

Despite of all these facilities, I walked from Fira to Oia to watch the beautiful sunset, though a walk back from Oia to Fira is not really that nice due to the difficult rocky terrain with up and down climbs. The sunset is amazing at Oia (also knows as La). Oia is one of the few towns where you can see the full view of sunset (in other towns the sun hides behind the volcano and you will not be able to enjoy the stunning moment, when sun meets the sea).

If you have seen the photos or videos of the sunset at Oia and are expecting the same in real life, like I was expecting, then you will have to lower your expectations. Though undoubtedly the sunset is amazing, but like you and me, everybody who is visiting Greece wants to experience this stunning moment, thus creating huge crowd. If you want to take a picture of you with setting sun, then I am sure you will capture many other strangers in the view and that looks more like a picnic vacation than an exotic vacation to Greece.

Try to book a hotel facing the sea overlooking caldera from where you can watch the sunset sitting in the balcony with your partner and a glass of wine. This might sound little costly so alternatively, if you want to take pictures of the sunset, you can do that at Fira or from Faros Lighthouse.

Santorini has lots to offer to food lovers, including its most talked about dish, the white aubergine (eggplant); fava caper; a variety of tomato keftedes, with whole slices of tomatoes fried in batter; dolmades, stuffed vine leaves. Another must-try is fresh fish grilled in tavernas, esp. those close to a sea.

Santorini is also famous for its cherry tomatoes, a variety of very sweet tomatoes. I also tried local tomatoes in my salad and that tastes the best. Meal for two on a regular restaurant in Santorini may cost you € 40. Almost all the restaurants offer traditional fried tomato balls of tomato keftedes, though it tasted different in different restaurants.

on

Forest bathing, a practice with roots in Japan, has surged in popularity in recent years. But what exactly is it, and how can you experience its potential health benefits? This article dives into the world of forest bathing and unveils a new resource – a guidebook by foresttherapyhub, to help you embark on your own immersive nature experience.

Forest Bathing: A Path to Well-being

Forest bathing isn’t simply a walk in the woods. It’s a guided practice of connecting with nature through our senses. By slowing down, quieting our minds, and focusing on the sights, sounds, smells, textures, and tastes of the forest environment, we can unlock a range of health benefits. Studies have shown that forest bathing can reduce stress, improve mood, boost the immune system, and even lower blood pressure. This makes it a valuable tool within the realm of nature-based interventions.

Forest Therapy Hub: Your Gateway to Nature

Forest Therapy Hub (FTHub) is a leading organization dedicated to promoting and educating people about forest bathing. They offer workshops, retreats, and certifications for those who want to deepen their understanding and practice of this nature-based intervention.

At the heart of forest bathing lies the idea of mindfulness and presence. As individuals wander through the forest, they are encouraged to engage with their surroundings fully. This includes observing the intricate patterns of leaves, listening to the rustle of trees, feeling the texture of bark, and even tasting the freshness of the air.

A Unique Guidebook for Forest Bathing Adventures

FTHub’s latest offering, feeling nature: a Forest Bathing Book with 50 trails https://foresttherapyhub.com/news/feeling-nature-a-book-with-50-trails-for-forest-bathing/, is a one-of-a-kind resource for anyone interested in forest bathing. This book isn’t your typical trail guide. It’s a collaboration between forest bathing professionals and forestry experts, offering a unique perspective on 50 different trails across Spain.

More Than Just Directions

Each trail description goes beyond basic directions. The authors, who are experienced forest bathing guides, provide sensory cues to heighten your awareness of the natural world. They share details you might otherwise miss, transforming your walk into a multisensory experience.

Respectful Exploration

The book also emphasizes respectful exploration of natural landscapes. The authors, well-versed in forestry, weave scientific information about the specific ecosystems into the trail descriptions. This fosters a deeper appreciation for the delicate balance of nature and encourages responsible forest bathing practices, aligning perfectly with the core principles of nature-based interventions.

A Personal Connection

Feeling nature goes beyond providing factual information. Each guide infuses their trail description with their personal connection to the forest, sharing insights gained from countless hours spent immersed in nature. This adds a layer of warmth and authenticity to the book, making it a valuable companion for anyone seeking a deeper connection with the natural world.

Take a Step Towards Well-being with Forest Bathing

Whether you’re a seasoned hiker or simply looking for a way to reconnect with nature, feeling nature offers a unique and enriching forest bathing experience.
