Top Reasons Why People Say Indian Government Is Dumb
India is the largest democracy and all its citizens are proud of the same. Despite its geographical boundaries and distinct cultures, India stands a united country. However, despite all its beauty and elegance, the Indian government has come under the scanner both nationally and internationally.
Below are mentioned some of the reasons that encourage people to say that Indian Government is dump and is not awake to the realities and dangers that might be creeping in from different quarters.
1. No Concrete Foreign Policy
One of the biggest challenge that the Indian government has been facing is its inability to maintain a consistent foreign policy. This holds true for different matters of national and international significance.
The key anomalies in the foreign policy relate to a lackluster approach that Indian government adopts when it comes to dealing with terrorism. Terror from across the border is a gruesome reality in India and the government has not been able to pursue a hard stand against nations that have been pushing terrorists across the border.
This makes India a soft state and the common people have to suffer owing to this policy of the government. The latest case in this regard can be quoted as the bomb blasts that ripped past Hyderabad city. Despite the loss of precious human lives, the Indian Government could not do much apart from offering compensation for the dead.
Some countries have been claiming parts of Indian territories as disputed. The example of China can be quoted in this regard. China has been claiming Arunachal Pradesh as a disputed state. Despite it being a part of India, the central government has not been able to voice its concern at the appropriate platform. This too gives fuel to the apprehension that Indian Government is dumb enough to the realities that counter us, almost on a daily level.
2. Inability to Deal With Terrorism at Home
It seems as if most of the country is facing a tough time. The tough stand adopted by DMK on Tamil issue in Sri Lanka is an indication of the fact that all is not well down south. Things can take a turn for the worse as people in the state of Tamil Nadu feel for the ethnic Tamil population of Sri Lanka. Central India is not far from problems and the states here are infested with naxalite problem. The Indian government has not been able to counter this problem with precision and this has led to loss of precious human life and resources that could have been used for promoting economic interests of the local population. Besides, the morale of the security forces dealing with the problem too falls as it is they who have to deal with the situation on a daily basis.
North East too has its unique set of problems. Though government has been able to offset the impact of militancy to a bit, much needs to be done to create normalcy in the region. Jammu and Kashmir too has its unique set of problems and the militancy being fueled by neighboring country too needs to be addressed with a firm hand. Indian government has not been able to deal with terrorism at home firmly making the Indian government appear dumb on various national and international platforms.
3. Not Able to Maintain Cordial Ties With Allies
The present United Progressive Alliance government has not been able to maintain its house in order. Hardly a day passes when the opposition parties led by BJP do not blame the Prime Minister on going soft on various matters of national and international importance. Be it the extradition of top terrorist from Pakistan or the issue of Italian marines who have refused to return from Italy to face a trial in India, the UPA government is seen as going soft on matters that demand immediate attention.
Besides the opposition that the government faces from opposition parties, its own house is too not in order. Its important allies as Trinamool Congress led by Mamta Banerjee and DMK led by M. Karunanidhi have left the government on issues that concern them.
The inability to maintain its own house and bend on important issues of national and international matters have lend credibility to the fact that the Indian government is dumb to the realities and needs to do much more to lend credibility to its sagging image.
It is however noteworthy to mention that the current government in India is a coalition government and it has to consider the demands of its allies at times while taking decisions that have national and international implications.
Despite all the anomalies in its system, India continues to hold its dominance in the world politics. Perhaps that is what is known as true democracy.
