"
Excuse me! Ye loktantra kya hota hai?" (What is Loktantra?) A question whispered by a girl in my ear standing next to me while I was busy with a group of very enthusiastic friends of mine at Jantar Mantar shouting out different oldie Goldie slogans like
"BHARAT MATA KI JAI", "VANDE MATARAM", "INQULAAB ZINDABAAD."
I just gave an objective reply
"ITS DEMOCRACY"!! I could not exactly recognise what expression she gave under those shades she was wearing, but I had an expression of a subtle sarcasm on my face.
For a guy like me who has always been a fan of sarcastic and ironical aspects of life, the experience at Jantar Mantar was an exciting one. Did i forget to write that I was present at Jantar Mantar to support the cause for which Anna ji was fasting for?
Yeah!!
Nevertheless I was anyway going to "like" a Facebook page that says it, so that it would have been conveyed anyways. After looking at vast colours that the movement and the environment there held in itself I randomly said to Jatin one of my very, very good friends, while leaving the place, that I feel like writing a piece about it.
Well yes the movement was grand, the cause was great and enthusiasm in people there was even greater! Everybody had their reason to be there.
I would love to believe that most of the people were there because they believed in the cause. They knew what Lok Pal Bill is all about and what were the five issues with the government they were fighting for.
Everybody had their own way of expressions! From some fantastic slogans to some stupid ones. viz A dude had a very mind boggling slogan written on his arm, "INDIA FOR CORRUPTION."
Some groups campaigning cared to write the name of the Colleges or institutions they were related to 5 times bigger than any of the slogan they were carrying! That would be an awesome thing to write in the college prospectus next year. "We are very proud of our contribution towards the movement" (So you parents can be assured that those moral values will b inculcated in your child if u get them admitted here).
Everybody had their supplementary reasons 4 being there. A great opportunity to have things like. A new Facebook album named 'Fight against Corruption', or some kind of footage in any of the news channels, or Attention of cameras, or some political advantage, or giving some kind of fulfillment to their curiosity.
I would also love to mention a person who appeared like some kind of typical politician who was very clever to get a picture of him with us while we were busy writing slogans on a chart paper in a pose as if he is guiding us!
And also another uncle ji of similar breed I should say. Who immediately cared to stand beside with his arm on my shoulder giving a plastic smile as soon as a news correspondent wanted a byte of the temporary tattooed slogans on my arms and me telling about it! Even more pathetic was to see him urging the correspondent to ask him questions, because he was some one famous and had a card to show to prove it, but nicer was to see the correspondent ignoring him.
The day went on like this with people in different groups shouting screaming louder and louder. But amidst all of this the feel was an inspiring one. The experience was great. Unity was there. The
mantra of the so called
revolt has shown its magic! Government has agreed to the demands. The Very inspiring Anna ji has done it.
WE HAVE DONE IT!
