Norway Rocked; Blast in Prime Minister's Office

on Friday, 22 July 2011

A huge explosion rocked Norway which could be another Terrorist strike in the country. The explosion took place near the government buildings and im[arted much damage to them including the Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg's office.

A Reuters correspondent Walter Gibbs who was present at the site said that he could count atleast eight injured people. An official figure of deaths and injured people has not yet been published.

Most of the windows were shattered on the 17 storey building which housed Stoltenberg's office, as well as offices of other ministries including the oil ministry.

The cause of the blast is not known yet and many are suspecting it as a planned attack by international terrorists. Till now nobody from the Fire, Police or ministry has come forward to comment on this shocking incident.

Among the various terrorist organizations several analyst believes it could be the strike by Al Qaeda. The involvement of Islamic terrorism behind this can also be not ruled out. The reason is the involvement of Norway in Afghanistan. Another reason why these groups may hate Norway is because a Norwegian Newspaper reprinted Danish cartoon depicting Prophet Muhammad causing anger in the Islamic world.

US to Press Pakistan on Terror

on Tuesday, 19 July 2011

Hillary Clinton, on her visit to India assured that US will press Pakistan hard to control terror activities on its soil.

"We do not believe that there are any terrorists who should be given safe haven or a free pass by any government, because left unchecked the consequences of that kind of terrorist activity or intimidation can become very difficult to manage and control," said Clinton referring to Pakistan.
US and Pakistan are seeing the dark days of their relations. Once the major non-NATO ally, now US doubts whether is Pakistan America's ally or is it really playing a double game? After finding Osama hiding in the Pakistan's army cantonment and now deducting the economic aid to Pakistan after it sent back the american trainers from its soil, has brought the relations of the to country to the downfall.

External affairs minister of India, S. M Krishna and Hillary Clinton in a joint statement underlined the need of shutting down the terrorist camps in Pakistan which are creating the destabilization not only in India and the world but also in Pakistan, a thing which Pakistan is unable to understand and is continuing to be so lenient or supporting these groups in some sense.

She assured that US is ready to work together with India on counter terrorism which includes sharing of information as well as planning an operation. Supporting this, she said "...lot of the terrorist networks that threaten you also threaten us."

She said the US has made it clear to Pakistan that it is willing to have a strong relationship with Pakistan as it is still the key ally in the war against terrorism. But it called for a mutual recognition of terrorism as a zero tolerance factor. She said US cannot tolerate a safe haven for terrorists anywhere in the world. Pakistan's work should be transparent understanding that the terrorists which it has nurtured in past are a threat to its sovereignty.

"We recognise that Pakistan must act on its own behalf first and foremost to protect its own territory and sovereignty and to protect the lives of the people of Pakistan," she said.

Warheads Stolen From Romanian Train to Bulgaria

on

Romanian Train

In a shocking incident, some thieves in the Romanian mainland have stolen rocket warheads from the train which was destined to Bulgaria. The warheads were being supplied to a Bulgarian company and not the armed force of Bulgaria, as many had believed.

According to Romanian company Romarm, the security of the train was the responsibility of the company who was receiving the cargo. The authorities assured that the stolen 64 warheads pose no danger to security, as they did not contain any explosives and were not attached to the rockets.

The officials said that the thieves have probably stolen the warheads by accident, as they were not sure what they are stealing. It is believed that the thieves were scrap metal thieves.

Bulgaria's Economy Ministry said the warheads belonged to 122mm-diameter Grad rockets, typically fired from vehicle-mounted multiple-rocket launchers.

The ministry said in a statement that the shipment was a part of a transfer of "nonfunctional components and parts'" for reprocessing at the VMZ factory, one of Bulgaria's largest military factories, in Sopot, central Bulgaria, where the components and parts were to be replaced and the warheads prepared for sale, as quoted by TNN.

The train began its journey on Friday and was stationed overnight in Brasov under guard.

Romanian news agency, Mediafax, said in a report that railway workers noticed the seals on the train's door were broken, and the door was not closed properly, when the train reached Giurgiu, a Danube port that borders Bulgaria.

India Does Not Behave as a Super Power

on Sunday, 17 July 2011

 Indian flag on Nasdaq

India, a country which is considered as a super power of the future and an important party in the world politics doesn't know well how to play a role of a Super Power, or atleast how to reach closer to being a super power.

Economically and in the sector of Science and development India is though rising, but the politics and diplomacy lies much out of the track. It is not true if we say India's foreign diplomacy is poor, but India definitely needs one solid approach of foreign policy.

As the insurgency in Libya continues, it is very sure that it will only end once Gaddafi steps down or leaves the place. At this India like US, Russia, China and Germany should be thinking how to keep the relations strong with post Gaddafi government in the resource rich Libya.

It is true that much of the actions by India in Africa is due to the fact that China is growing aggressively in that region and grabbing all exciting deals. If China wouldn't have expanded its arm in Africa, India would have never thought of going that way.

India's lethargic late response on Libya and Egypt uprising is a proof of India's disinterest in the region. Which can cost it a bit in the future. As most of the Indian politicians are involved in domestic politics. They hardly have time to atleast say a word or two on foreign development. For example, there is hardly anything which India said on the development in Sudan. Does India congratulate on the independence of South Sudan or condemn the disintegration of Sudan? We have no idea about this. It would be better if India could establish itself in reconstruction and infrastructure development programs in South Sudan.

Influence in the world, survey by GlobeScan
As the Wikileaks cable says, India is a self appointed permanent member of UN Security Council, India doesn't really know how to play like a super power.

But when it comes to the region, India acts quite smart. India was quick to support and offer help to Afghanistan immediately after the fall of Taliban. India was able to get China support India's bid for a permanent member in UNSC that too against the will of Pakistan which considered China the only hope to block India's aggressive move towards a permanent seat.

A strong example of great diplomacy was seen when last year top leaders from countries like Russia, France, Germany, US and China came to India and signed various agreements as well as particularly named Pakistan for creating disturbance in the region.

This is true for being a super power of the world, a country should establish well with stability in its own region. But where there is opportunity, India should not lag behind.

Serial Blasts in Mumbai. Mumbai on Target

on Wednesday, 13 July 2011

Mumbai has been rocked again this time with serial bomb blasts. Reportedly three explosions have taken place on Wednesday 13th July, 2011. One of the bomb at Dadar has been found unexploded and the bomb squad is working on that. Out of three. two blasts took place in South Mumbai at Opera House and Zaveri Bazar and another in Dadar. Though nothing is clear about the intensity and planters of the bomb, Home Ministry has confirmed it as a terrorist attack.

IED was used to make the bombs. A team of National Security Guards has also left Delhi for Mumbai.

Blasts took place when there was huge crowd and rush. Other cities Delhi, Chennai and Bangalore has also been put up on red alert. Though putting on red alert after such an event has taken place is of less use, what India needs is strong information system which can put the cities in high alert before something like this is likely to happen.

Eyewitnesses said about 15 to 20 people have taken to hospital in Zaveri Bazar. Reports said six people had died in the Dadar blast, four in the Zaveri Bazaar blast. as quoted by NDTV

One explosion,  in a car at a bus stop in Dadar West, has been confirmed. A police officer said there might have been an explosive in a meter box behind a hoarding at Khau gali, a street filled with eateries at Zaveri Bazaar. The Opera House blast took place at Prasad Chamber.

while the police has appealed to maintain calm int he region. A team of National Investigation Agency has rushed to Mumbai from New Delhi.

Indian Economy Growing at 11% GDP

on Sunday, 10 July 2011

KV Kamath, Newly Appointed Chairman of Infosys, a leading company in the leading sector of economy, has said that Indian economy is growing much faster than officially quoted 8 to 8.5%.

Saying that economic data and method  used to calculate the GDP growth rate in India is inaccurate, he said if right statistics are not used, the question over the economic growth will always remain. At meet the press event he claimed that Indian economy is growing at the rate of 11-12%, a double digit figures which is now common in China.

He compared India and China's per capita income with time. India is lagging behind China by 10 years. what China is now, India will be after 10 years. And what India is now, China was before 10 years.

This shows if India has to come close to China then it has to put stress on many other left outs areas where it has not been much involved. A strong manufacturing sector like China is needed which has to be expanded as it has potential to generate large scale employment. Similarly development of modern infrastructure and facilities are necessary as poor infrastructure can become an obstruction for smooth faster development.

Also, consumer demand must be kept robust to drive the economy. He said technology too could help in greater percolation of benefits to the poor. The use of the unique identification platform for cash-transfer schemes using Aadhaar-linked bank accounts would prevent leakages in subsidy programmes like LPG and kerosene. On the high interest rate environment, Kamath said the most affected would be retail customers who take home loans, auto loans, etc. Businesses can tide over these times with internal accruals, he said as quoted by The Times of India.

Denmark Breaks Free Movement in Europe

on Wednesday, 6 July 2011

In a controversial step Denmark has blocked the free movement in Europe's visa free Schengen area. The decisions came on Tuesday boosting customs checks on the borders, Denmark is soon going to deploy 50 additional customs officers at the borders with Germany and Sweden even after the protest by these countries.

The stand of other European countries is against Denmark's decision which has created a valley in the region of free movement of people and goods in the group of European nations which consists of 25 countries.

Though Denmark is supporting its stance with the fact that banning free movement and deploying customs will discourage drug smuggling as well as illegal migration.

Customs will have facility to read license plates automatically, detect speed of the vehicle and check vehicles for any illegal item. The speed limits at the check points will be lowered. And it will be mandatory for all the vehicles to get them checked whether they have Schengen visa or not. By the end of this year, it is said that additional over 100 custom officers will join the current 182 member staff at the borders with Germany and Sweden.

Though there is no hard point to blame Denmark for this, but it has surely broken the spirit on which the Schengen system was made. Though entering Denmark is still allowed but not without getting all the formalities done on the borders. This shows somewhere or the other the Schengen system failed. It wont be surprising when more and more western European countries would start going for it since almost All western European countries who are under this region have discovered a large number of illegal migration as well as drug smuggling.

The Beginning of Asian Era; Asia in 21st Century

on Monday, 4 July 2011

It was rightly said that the 21st century belongs to Asia. With the recent developments in the region there is no doubt that Asia has already started to dominate in this century.

Whatever it is, whether fastest trains, tallest buildings, longest bridges, highest bridges, modern hybrid cars and intelligent robots. You name it Asia has it. And apart from all this, Asia is largest producer food and feeder as well. While there are fast growing small regions like Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines and Taiwan, there are also big economy giants like India, China, Russia and Japan.

Time to time this Eurasian block has given challenge to the western world, Soviet Union alone could take care of western super powers in the west who were imperialistic in nature and believed in colonizing and exploiting those  resources to build their own economies.

Source: imf.org
After the breakup of Soviet Union. NATO and US tried its best to bring the region in their influence to avoid any formation of future power in the region against the western bloc. Somewhere it succeeded and somewhere it did not.

Today that time has somewhat gone when people used to compare east and west, now it is more about cooperation than competition. We can not say which one is better now because both the blocs have equal achievement in different fields of technology, space research, weapons, science, and economy.

If communist economy fell down in 1991, Western capital economy also didn't last much long, as in 2008-09  world experienced a huge recession that still some European countries are struggling. Whereas people in US and UK are trying hard for jobs. Even after all this, mixed economy in Russia, China and India were almost unhurt.

When we asked people form Russia if they are happy now or they were before in USSR period. There were mixed reactions some said yes and some said no. We came to a conclusion that while jobs and life was more secured in USSR time, but openness and exposure is more in this time.

Though if we want to see Asian economies overtaking American economy, then one might have to wait for a long time, but it is true that all recent developments are taking place in east.

Kabul Taking Inspiration from Gurgaon, India

on Friday, 1 July 2011

Kabul, the capital of the war torn Afghanistan is now gearing up to expand and develop. With the huge involvement of Indians in the reconstruction and re-development of the country in terms of education, transport, facilities,  trade, and economy, a delegation from Kabul landed in Gurgaon (Delhi's satellite city) to learn from the  massive growth of the city in a short span of time.
The thing which attracts Afghanistan to this city is that, Gurgaon was converted from a desert village into a concrete jungle in a very short period of time.

gurgaon highriseGurgaon is the part of National Capital Region (NCR) and is also famous as Millennium City or DLF City named after the real estate giants. Though they are not the official names and are the part of the city Gurgaon.

The delegation was led by the mayor of the City Kabul visited this Indian city to study the Public-Private-partnership (PPP) model of city and infrastructure development.

noida skyscrapperIndia and Afghanistan share a lot in common and India is the only neighbour of the war torn Afghanistan which is seriously dedicated to improve the conditions in the country after a decades long rule by Pakistan sponsored Taliban terrorism and US led military forces. This is making Afghanistan to tilt towards India for help in various projects. India has been involved in constructing a highway along the length of Afghanistan to connect major cities with a sea port in Iran, thus reducing the dependency of this land locked country on Pakistan for sea trade.

While India is also in developing phase, hence Afghanistan has a lot more to learn from India than the other already developed western countries.
