Are Pakistan's Nuclear Weapons in Safe Hands?

on Thursday, 26 May 2011

A large number of countries including India and America always had doubt over the safety of Pakistan's nuclear arsenal. Time to time countries expressed fears on nuclear weapons falling in the wrong hands like some terrorist organization or in the hands of extremists within the government.

With the increase in the standards of attacks by the terrorists, it is clear that they have now more professional fighters than before. The kind of attack in Mumbai and now in Karachi Naval Air Base, shows that these terrorists now have capability of attacking even highly secured places.

After the Karachi Attack, concerns are growing in India and in western world about the safety of Pakistan's nuclear arsenals. Pakistan has been building more and more nuclear weapons when India has paused and rest of the world is decreasing its stockpile. At this situation it is difficult to understand why Pakistan has been pouring money on its nuclear program when it doesn't have money to feed and to save its own people from extremists.

What will happen if Nuclear Weapons fall in Wrong Hands?

This is the question rising in many minds. Pakistan's nuclear program is due to two reason, one is that to overcome the inferiority to India in conventional war and another is that to be a Islamic nuclear state.

Generally in war nuclear weapons are used at last or when there is no other option remaining. Pakistan at this wont wait for this condition to come and will launch much before or may be at the beginning itself. If nuclear material falls into wrong hands then these extremists can make a small bomb and smuggle into India for detonating. And if extremists get the control of nuclear bomb in the worst case scenario, then they can point it towards Israel and India.

There are elements within the government of Pakistan who don't run on any order or ideology but on the feeling of revenge and religion. At this it becomes very necessary to help the civilian government which formed in the country after many years of military rule, in protecting the nuclear arsenals.

It is believed that US, Israel and some western nations have been planning to dismantle Pakistani nuclear program but nothing has been confirmed till now and Pakistan enjoys no discrimination in continuing its nuclear program unlike Iran. It is true that Pakistan didn't receive nuclear deals from US and other countries other than China unlike India which has bagged nuclear deals with more than 12 countries.

India and Pakistan both are non signatory of NPT, but India has been put on special status which allows it to trade technologies and materials vital for nuclear program. This special status was given to India for its excellent proliferation record and its excellent focus on economy development and building.

NATO and Taliban Fighting on Twitter

on Sunday, 15 May 2011

Taliban, when it was in power in Afghanistan since 1996 to 2001 had banned all electronic items calling it as un-Islamic. Taking pictures or keeping video player was a serious offence. But now the same Taliban is using the means of web presence and social media to promote their idea and tell the world their point of view of the war.

Taliban has become live on Twitter and has gained 4864 followers, the number is growing as they have started tweeting in English.

twitter logo"We did it because we know Twitter is a popular social network in the West, and we want to make our voice heard. They used to hear only one-sided news about us from the invaders, but now they can know the reality.

Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid told AFP that they created Twitter account six month back.

Taliban had also created a Facebook page for the same reason a little while ago, but it was shut down by Facebook an year back.

Taliban is using http://twitter.com/alemarahweb as their twitter profile and is updated by mostafa ahmedi. Earlier they tweeted in their own language, but now to gai more support and search for potential recruitment opportunity they have been tweeting in English.

On this the response of the NATO also came in the form of a tweet from their twitter account, "What's that? Taliban's tweeting in English? Lies are lies no matter the language."

World's Recordable Biometrics ID Project @ India

on Monday, 9 May 2011

In India, a few million people have been registered so far for Universal Id project -- most of them left to go. Identity is easy to take for granted. Most of us have multiple legal documents or ID cards that proves we are who we say we are. But for many of the world's poorest citizens/ illitrate citizens, the lack of legal identity is a barrier to participating in commerce and receiving services.

In India, an estimated 500 million people have no form of reliable identification. It's a problem the Indian government has set out to fix through a five-year project with a budget of US $430 million for this year. Starting six months ago with rural populations, the government has begun to create a biometric database that will eventually contain an unprecedented hundreds of millions of records.

From each volunteer participant, the government collects 10 fingerprints, 2 iris images, and a photo, and if the new data don't match any identity already enrolled, it assigns the person a unique 12-digit number. After that, a single fingerprint or iris scan should be all that's needed to verify the identity of any person. As of the end of March, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has registered more than 4 million people this way. The UIDAI hopes to eventually collect biometrics from a majority of the Indian population.
India has many federal and state programs to help people living in poverty, but today it's nearly impossible to be sure that funds and benefits are actually being delivered to those who need them. The ID project is an attempt to cut down on fraud and graft by increasing accountability and transparency. It's also meant to provide access to banking and the formal economy that many people lack.

Government biometrics programs have been tried before and failed, in India and elsewhere. The United Kingdom's universal ID program, for instance, got bogged down by both costs and privacy concerns and didn't offer tangible benefits to the average citizen. But the UIDAI's universal ID program, or Aadhaar, as it's called, seems to be off to a fast start. As soon as he was appointed in July 2009, chairman Nandan M. Nilekani set the ambitious goal of issuing the first million IDs within 12 to 18 months, and the UIDAI hit that mark by January 2011. Efficiency is not a strength of most government bureaucracies, so Nilekani looked to Silicon Valley for help.
Still, the Indian project has presented unique obstacles. Take fingerprints, the most mature and best-understood biomarker. Because almost all scholarly publications had focused on Western subjects for law-enforcement purposes, Prabhakar and his colleagues were in the dark about how well such systems work when data are collected in a variety of locations and conditions from a rural population of Indians, many of whose fingerprints have been obscured or erased by manual labor.

So UIDAI started with smaller proof-of-concept programs to test the accuracy of the ID generation process with tens of thousands of subjects. There are two factors that determine accuracy: the false positive rate, which is how often a newly registered person's record is judged to be a duplicate of someone else's record, and the false negative rate, which is the frequency that true duplicate records—for instance, if someone registered twice under two names—are not recognized as such. In the pilot study, the researchers found that by adding the iris scans to the 10 fingerprints, they could decrease the false negative rate by a factor of 50 over the use of irises alone and by a factor of 25 over the use of fingerprints alone. "It's hard to make a system error free," says Jain, "but the important thing is to minimize the error."

When a duplicate record is detected, it is flagged for manual verification. In the pilot study, the system generated false positive errors in 0.0025 percent of cases. That rate would generate 25 erroneous records daily, if the project makes the goal of 1 million IDs per day by October 2011 set by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee.

Pakistan Warned India of Doing Anything Like Operation Geronimo

on Thursday, 5 May 2011

Admitting that the operation condcuted by Americans resulted into a great achievement, but Pakistan has warned US and India of conducting such strikes ever again in the future.

Saying it will lead to a terrible catastrophe, America or India might have to regret. Foreign Secretary, Salman Bashir told the media, "This cannot be taken as a rule."

"There should be no doubt that Pakistan has a capacity to ensure its own defence," he said.

Indirectly referring to India, he said, "Any other country that would ever act (similarly) on the assumption that it has the might ... will find it has made a basic miscalculation."

salman bashir
Salman Bashir, source: allvoices.com
India has been demanding for 26/11 perpetrators and Dawood Ibrahim responsible for 1993 Mumbai train blasts for a long time. Pakistan earlier denied that 26/11 planning was on its soil, later when it was proved Pakistan went on a denial mode and never took any action. Similarly for Dawood Ibrahim, Pakistan always denied that he was in their soil. But it has been proved by their own media that he stays in a luxurious house in Karachi.

Pakistan is afraid if India will do similar strike to the capture the accused, then it will again have to face embarrassment in front of the whole world.

He added: "We see a lot of bravado in our region... from the military, air force, which state that this can be repeated.

"We feel that sort of misadventure or miscalculation will result in a catastrophe."

Inside Pakistan: What Should Pakistan Do After Osama?

on

Finding Osama in the Army Cantonment of Pakistan and not in the caves have disturbed many people around the world including Pakistan.

If Pakistani Army and ISI was not involved, then it was a big blow to their capabilities which is claimed by them to be the most superior in South Asia. ISI has done many successful missions in the past and is considered more evolved and aggressive than RAW. Army and ISI is one thing in Pakistan on which people have proud. But this new finding has given a shock to the people of Pakistan.

Recently the government of Pakistan in an interview told that it was the intelligence failure of the whole world who couldn't find Osama, he appealed The world community instead of helping Pakistan is now blaming it for keeping the world's most wanted man shielded. The government showed how it was worried when they found that Osama was actually hiding in the home of their Army and were thankful that Osama didn't do anything to them otherwise things would have got much complicated.

ISI and Army is smart enough to come out of this embarrassment. Real blow this news has given to those in Pakistan who were trying hard to recover its image and improvise the situation. While it has lost the trust of many nations, Pakistan might see a huge political change in their system.

The way international community is behaving is actually pressurizing the leaders too much who are willing to improve the conditions in Pakistan.

While in India, opposition is pressurizing the Indian government to cut-off all the ties with Pakistan, it is unlikely that the government will do so, as it finds a perfect environment to talk to Pakistan, as it needs India too.

As the world is branding Pakistan as a terrorist sanctuary, Pakistan can make them shut their mouth by taking action against the perpetrators of 26/11 Mumbai attacks and handing over the masterminds, operators and Dawood Ibrahim to India.

The time when Pakistan is unlikely to receive any further economic aid from the western nation, it is the high time that India, Pakistan and China should now start a better trading and investment business. Pakistan should exploit the advantage of similar people which they have in India as them, their products, their arts, their music will be rejoiced in India much more than in China.

India Knew Where Osama Was? Dawood Needs a Similar Treatment

on Wednesday, 4 May 2011

According to an article by The Times of India, titiled "India had twice told US about Osama's likely presence close to Islamabad", India knew about Osama's whereabouts very precisely and had warned US atleast two times in mid 2007 and early 2008 that Pakistan could be cheating with them and playing their usual double game.

In 2007 when India gave information to US was soon after a Taliban meeting in Peshawar, which is the headquarter of Pakistan's Intelligence Agency, ISI. The meeting was attended by the top leaders, Osama's No. 2 Ayman al-Zawahari including the leaders of Haqqani network and ISI officials.

India Gate
India Gate
On this Indian intelligence officials had to say, "The urgency with which Zawahiri visited Islamabad or the area in its vicinity suggested that he was there for some purpose. We told them about Zawahiri visiting Islamabad and we also told them that we believed Osama may not be hiding in caves but in a highly urbanized area somewhere near Islamabad. Of course, nobody had spotted him and it was a conclusion we drew on the basis of the information we got."

Next time India gave the exact location of Osama in Pakistan in a cantonment area, "This time we specifically mentioned about his presence in a cantonment area. It was because we had definite information that his movement was restricted owing to his illness and that it would have been impossible for him to go to an ordinary hospital. We told the Americans that only in a cantonment area could he be looked after by his ISI or other Pakistani benefactors."

Both the time US ignored this intelligence input, either it was too busy in their own operation or they had no time to listen to the advices of another country.

Similarly, India had pinpointed Dawood Ibrahim's location several time in Pakistan. It is well known that he is not hiding in some jungles or in some other country, but he is being very well cared in some of the Pakistan's top cities.

The only thing is that India cannot conduct a similar surgical strike as US did. But this is the only option. Even US feared informing Pakistan about their operation in advanced because they feared that Pakistan will oppose it and will possibly shift Osama bin laden to a safer place.

While US did everything and went back, Pakistan couldn't do much more than scrambling its jets. But if it was India, Pakistan would have surely entered into Indian territory calling it as an invader.

To get him and other operators of 26/11 Mumbai attacks, India has to wait and see if Pakistan to regain its image in the world would do anything against them or not. Pakistan is in a state of shame and the government is embarrassed, it is either because that it has been exposed that Pakistan was sheltering Osama, or because of the fact which they came to know that Osama was hiding in their army's home and still they didn't know about it that Americans had to come and kill him.

If Pakistan has to improve its status and image in the world, it has to act against 26/11 perpetrators and stop sheltering Dawood Ibrahim.

Another fear other than this which has setup in the minds of Pakistani generals is that Americans could do a similar surgical strike on their nuclear assets whenever they want. Pakistan's nuclear program is considered very dangerous by other nations due to the presence of extremists in the country in large numbers. Most of the countries including israel and America are looking for destroying their capability before they ever launch a bomb. Pakistan doesn't maintain a "no first use" policy unlike India.

People in Pakistan Gather to Pay Homage to Osama Bin Laden

on

Some supporters of Osama came out on the streets of Quetta to pay homage to their hero, Osama bin Laden. Raising Anti America slogan, burning American flags and chanting death to America.

According to a news report by The Express Tribune, these participants belonged to a religious party in Quetta which is the capital of southwestern province Baluchistan. the protest was led by federal lawmaker Maulawi Asmatullah.

source: tribune.com.pk;
The protest was peaceful where thousands of supporters sat on the road with a photo of Osama. It was the first rally in Pakistan and anywhere in the world, where thousands of supporters gathered to pay homage in respect of Osama who is considered as the world's deadliest man.

Asmatullah misquoted Osama as the hero of the muslim world.

“Bin Laden was the hero of the Muslim world and after his martyrdom he has won the title of great mujahed (Muslim fighter).”

Whereas the truth is that 100% of the Muslims in India and near 99.99% Muslims in the other nations hated Osama Bin Laden who has only brought a bad name to the religion.

According to officials quoted by CBS News , CIA interrogations in secret prisons abroad [Romania and Poland] had obtained the first information about it.

According to former and current U.S. officials, Khaled Sheikh Mohammed, the organizer of the attacks of 11 September 2001, was the one who provided the name of the messenger. The CIA obtained similar information from Mohammed's successor, Abu Faraj al-Libi. Both were subjected to harsh interrogation techniques in the CIA's secret prisons in Romania and Poland, according to CBS News .

Prisoners have told interrogators that Osama bin Laden had a lot of confidence in this messenger.

American President, Barack Obama, announced Monday morning that al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden, was killed in a raid by American special forces in Abbottabad, about 80 miles north of the Pakistani capital Islamabad.

How Did US Managed to Enter Deep in Pakistan?

on Tuesday, 3 May 2011

When US got the intelligence input that Osama has been hiding in a protective and secured house in the Army Cantonment of Pakistan in Abbotttabad, they came straight to Pakistan without informing anyone to conduct their operation. Even the government of Pakistan was not informed.

Recently Pakistan has charged US of violating its airspace in a move to divert the attention of the world when everyone is asking Pakistan what was Osama doing in their Army's home.

But the real question is, why Pakistan Army and Air force, which considers it superior to all in South Asia, couldn't stop them?

blackhawk
A top US official said that the Pakistan Air Force had detected something unusual in their airspace and even readied their aircrafts to hunt the foreign object down, but before they could do it. Americans did their operation which lasted for 40 minutes and went back avoiding any face to face conflict with the Pakistani military.

The US administration refused to answer how they came so deep without being intercepted by the Pakistani Air Force, but a report suggests that Americans used to radars blind spots and took cover of mountains to reach their destination and complete their operation.

American top official John Brennan, a counter terrorism expert also said that they feared that Pakistan would take the incoming object as an Indian intruder and take a repulsive action against India.

"US was concerned that if the Pakistanis decided to scramble jets or whatever else... They had no idea about who might have been in there, whether it be US or somebody else[India], so we were watching and making sure that our people and our aircraft were able to get out of Pakistani airspace. And thankfully, there was no engagement with Pakistani forces."

Reaction of Pakistani Media on Osama Bin Laden's Death

on

There is a moment of mixed feelings in Pakistan after the death of Osama bin Laden who was found in an army cantonment of Pakistan, not in a cave but in a highly secured home looked like some guest house protected by high walls and barbed wires.

Asif Ali Zardari; source: forumpakistan.com
Some are happy that world's most wanted terrorist is dead, some are sad that their main hero who was supporting their interests in Afghanistan and the world and the man who was responsible for Pakistan receiving billions of dollars as aid was dead. And most of them were embarrassed that how come he was in the home of Pakistan Army and still they couldn't find him. How could Pakistani Army couldn't do anything and Americans had to come deep inside Pakistan to kill him.

The News: "The astonishing manner in which the operation that resulted in bin Laden's death...leaves us all gasping in astonishment," The newspaper said "Pakistan's failure to detect the presence of the world's most wanted man here is shocking" and pointed there was "lack of clarity as to what role, if any, our security and intelligence apparatus played in the whole affair".

"Many questions still hang in the air...For Islamabad, the whole business is something of an embarrassment. Despite years of fervent denial, bin Laden has been found on Pakistani soil. And now that the brazen US action in Abbottabad has happened, there may be other attempts to go after key militant figures in different urban centres."

The Express Tribune: "If all of this is true - and it really seems fantastical on the face of it that something like this could have happened without Pakistan's tacit or overt approval/assistance - then the obvious question arises that what was Osama bin Laden doing in Abbottabad, a garrison town, in a house that was a stone's throw from the Pakistan Military Academy."

"In all of this, one thing is clear: Pakistan should have hunted the man down on its own, because America is not the only country that has suffered at the hands of al-Qaida and its allied jihadi outfits."

"Even in death, Osama haunts Pakistan," said the banner headline in The Express Tribune referring to the embarrassment which Pakistan is feeling after knowing that Osama was hiding their for past ten years.

The Dawn: "An era had ended with the killing of bin Laden, whose 9/11 terror attacks in the US had "transformed Pakistan and Afghanistan, dragging them into ideological divides and violence".

"The US raid in Abbottabad had raised a slew of questions about the level of cooperation with Pakistani intelligence and the military."

"Were they taken into confidence? If so, at what point? Were they consulted or simply informed? Did they play a role in the operation?" the newspaper questioned.

Osama Bin Laden and Pakistan, A lost Friendship

on

Silence of Pakistan's President Asif Ali Zardari after the death of Osama Bin Laden is expressing the grief they are having of loosing an old friend who became their best friend in the past ten years.

Evidence and confidence of the claims by international authorities were rising, but Pakistan denied it every time. Pakistan didn't want to loose its interest in Afghanistan, wanted to save its second source of income and wanted to use Osama to take revenge on India of loosing four wars.

A magnificent view of Abbottabad,
an army cantt. of Pakistan where Osama was found
To kill Osama, Pakistan was getting billions of dollars as aid and military equipments. If Osama would have got killed soon, Americans would have stopped pouring money. Pakistan thus tried to limit the war in Afghanistan and prevented American military from reaching Pakistan. Whenever American helicopter or fighter reached near the border, Pakistan forces would repel them with force. This is not a healthy behaviour between the allies.

Americans troops were planning exit from Afghanistan and Pakistan was rejoicing that it had an opportunity of setting up its influence in that country once again with the help of terrorists, and they needed Osama for it. Osama would have then planned something against India in favour of Pakistan to show the honour for saving and caring and supporting him for past ten years.

Pakistan is in extreme condition of dilemma; on one hand they want to take some credit and on the other hand they are scared to do that, since Osama was found in Abbottabad, which is actually an army Cantonment about half an hour of distance from the capital of Pakistan, Islamabad. It is now clear after American President Obama's address that the operation was conducted solely by the American troops and the government of Pakistan was only notified after Osama was killed. It was kept secret from Pakistani government because they didn't want Pakistan to disturb their intelligence sources and shift Osama bin Laden to some other place.

This behaviour of America shows that they knew that Pakistani government could try to save him and shift him somewhere else before Americans could reach. Former high commissioner to Pakistan G Parthasarathy told TOI, "Pakistan stands exposed having harboured the most wanted terrorist in the world. The elimination of terrorist safe havens in Pakistan will now increasingly become an international priority."

"He was not anywhere we had anticipated he would be, but now he is gone," said the President of Pakistan in an opinion piece for the Washington Post. "Although the events of Sunday were not a joint operation, a decade of cooperation and partnership between the United States and Pakistan led up to the elimination of Osama bin Laden as a continuing threat to the civilized world."
While Osama bin Laden is dead, it doesn't mean that problem of terrorism is solved. Terrorism, especially in Pakistan, Afghanistan and Middle East is an ideology. You kill more, they will multiply. It spreads due to hatred and lack of education which is denied in some of these places by Taliban. Incidents of burning and destroying school and girls school is very common in the region.

The man who would have got the biggest relief just like Americans is The president of Afghanistan, Hamid Karzai. Since Pakistan was forcing him to negotiate with Taliban as it was in the interest of Pakistan. Now Afghanistan can have its free government and can work a little more on developments projects without worrying from Pakistan.

For India, the game is not over. India has to remain active and aware, Al Qaeda was much an active and independent group, but those group which pose danger to India are not independent, but are controlled by the Pakistani army and ISI, this claim is not hollow anymore if we study the reports of interrogation of Rana and David Headley properly.

Now, Osama has left this world and so the dreams of Pakistan. The embarrassment which Pakistan would be feeling is understandable. Somebody commented on a forum for Pakistan very well:

"ISI's Stalemate: To claim that ISI took part in the operations against Osama means inviting attacks in Pakistan by the Jihadist. To claim ignorance of Osama's presence means they are in the non-intelligence business To claim that ISI knew about Osama means they supported him which implies no more US aid to Pakistan"

The thoughts expressed in this article are partially of the author and partially the summary of various news articles around the world. Svetlana Petrova is a passionate writer from Russia, who has written many articles on South Asia's diplomacy and nuclear rivalry. You can contact here.

Who Was Osama Bin Laden? A Brief Biography

on

We are interested in making you aware about who Osama Bin Laden was, what made him to be like the world's most wanted man?

How could a normal human thinks like this? Many such question in our mind can be solved by just knowing Who Was Osama Bin Laden?

A Brief Biography of Osama Bin Laden

A simple man, born in 1957 form a Syrian mother, tenth wife of his father, in Riyadh, now the capital of Saudi Arabia. He was a part of a huge family, seventh son among his fifty brothers and sisters.

Osama's father Mohammed Awad bin Laden came and settled in Saudi from South Yemen back in 1930. Working as a poor labourer, a porter in Jeddah Port, he later ended up as a owner of the biggest construction company in the Saudi Kingdom.

Bin Laden became very close to the royal family of the kingdom during the reign of the King Saud. He took the task of constructing the king's palace cheaper than the cheapest bid and impressed the king with his artful work. Within this time he also built good relations with the other members of the royal family, especially Faisal. In early '60s Faisal and Saudi fell in a conflict and Bin Laden had a great role to convince Kng Saud to step down. After the exit of Saud bin Laden had t pay the the civil servant's wages of the whole kingdom for six months, as their treasury was empty. In return King Faisal issued all the construction projects in the name of bin Laden.

With the rebuilding task of Al-Aqsa mosque in 1969, after it was damaged in a fire accident, the bin Laden family had got close to working on all three mosques (Mecca and Medina) and they earned this honour too when they got a project of a major extension in the mosques.

Osama's father was a devoted and a true Muslim, a very generous and humble gentleman.

Early life and marriage

Soon after the birth of Osama, his parents got divorced. At the age of 13 he lost his father in an airplane crash. he was raised as a devoted Wahhabi Mulsimonly. At the age of 17, he married to a Syrian girl who was a distant relative of him.

From the year, 1968 to 1976, he attended the "élite" secular Al-Thager Model School. He studied economics and business administration at King Abdulaziz University. Some reports also suggests that he earned a degree in Civil Engineering in 1979 and some suggest that he had a degree in Public Administration in 1981.

Soviet Invasion of Afghanistan

This is the period when these talented and devoted people of the region turned into deadly terrorists. During the Soviet's invasion of Afghanistan in 1979, the local people of the country started struggling and repelling the soviet military's advancement. it was tough to stop the world's most powerful nation of that time. Fearing a possible growth in influence of Soviet Union in the middle east, America started supporting the Afghan rebels and turned Osama bin Laden into a terrorist. Supported him with lots of money, strategic plans and supplied weapons for him and for his group for free.

Soon the USSR left the place, US also stopped the proxy war and returned leaving all the money and weapons in their hands. Now the militants and terrorists were trained and much more professional in their guerilla tactics as trained by the Americans. The terrorist realized their power, they felt pride on their strength as they had just defeated the super power. They had the feeling of strength in unity. Keeping this unity, and seeing America's changing behaviour towards the muslim community in the world. Osama bin Laden used his plans strength, strategies to teach a lesson to America.

Attacks on American Interests

He stayed for a long time in Pakistan, he was a fighter in the Afghan war, he later formed Al-Qaeda and brought most of the countries in North Africa, Afghanistan, and Pakistan in his influence. He was involved in 1998 bombing of US embassies in many east African coutnries. He was involved in 2000 sinking of American navy destroyer USS The Sullivans in Yemen. Soon his name was introduced in top 10 most wanted men in FBI's list

His involvement is also reported in Bosnia and Herzegovina where a Polish daily reported that the militant elements in the former government were supporting extremists backed by Bin Laden.

He became the most wanted man in the world when he carried out an attack on World Trade Centre's Twin Towers on 9/11 hijacking civilian passenger jets and bombarding them into the building. And that was the day when America and NATO launched a mission to hunt Osama Bin laden in Afghanistan.

A senior counter terrorism official in US said that Osama was killed in a ground operation and not by a predator drone. President Obama in his address to the nation has made it clear that the operation was done exclusively by Americans on Pakistani Soil.

Though Obama praised the Civilian government of Pakistan, thanking them for their cooperation, Hilary Clinton came close to publicly exposing Pakistani government in hiding Osama Bin Laden.

''I am not saying they are at the highest level...but I believe somewhere in this government are people who know where Osama bin Laden and al-Qaida and where Mullah Omar and the leadership of the Taliban are,'' Clinton said on 10th May, 2010, adding, ''We expect more cooperation [from Pakistan] to help us bring to justice capture or kill those who brought us 9/11.''

Another evidence which supports the hand of ISI and Pakistani Army in hiding Osama bin Laden is that US team found him in Abbottabad which is an Amry cantonment some 50Km away from Islamabad, where the military of Pakistan has high presence. If Pakistan military is so advanced as claimed then they should have nailed him down, but they didn't.

US and India with other western nations had claimed many times that Osama was hiding in Pakistan, but Pakistan including the former military ruler Genereal Pervez Musharraf denied saying he was in Afghanistan.

Osama Bin Laden was the most wanted man in the world for attacking New York and for a string of attacks, including the bombings of American embassies in Kenya and Tanzania in 1998 and the bombing of the American warship USS Cole in 2000 off the Yemen coast. He has supported other terrorist groups as well. During the operation he was found hiding in a mountainous region along the Pakistan's western borders.

In a historic address to the nation from the White House, President Obama sad that he had directed the US armed forces to launch an attack against a compound in Pakistan.

"A small team of Americans carried out the operation with extraordinary courage and capability. No Americans were harmed. They took care to avoid civilian casualties."

"Justice has been done,"  said Obama.

India's Statement/Reaction on Osama Bin Laden's death

Earlier today the United States Government informed the Government of India that Osama Bin Laden had been killed by security forces somewhere "deep inside Pakistan." After the September 11, 2001 terror attack, the US had reason to seek Osama Bin Laden and bring him and his accomplices to justice.

We take note with grave concern that part of the statement in which President Obama said that the fire fight in which Osama Bin Laden was killed took place in Abbotabad "deep inside Pakistan". This fact underlines our concern that terrorists belonging to different organisations find sanctuary in Pakistan. We believe that the perpetrators of the Mumbai terror attack, including the controllers and handlers of the terrorists who actually carried out the attack, continue to be sheltered in Pakistan. We once again call upon the Government of Pakistan to arrest the persons whose names have been handed over to the Interior Minister of Pakistan as well as provide voice samples of certain persons who are suspected to be among the controllers and handlers of the terrorists.(Source: India's statement on Osama death)

Public Reaction on Osama Bin Laden's death

"This was my reaction. "Oh Yeah, Finally. I can now sleep tonight knowing this, He was hiding for years and was finally caught and killed. I am so happy right now." Said a really excited US citizen

"I am worried that it wasn't Bin Laden who died, but a follower masquerading as him so then we think he's dead. Then in a few weeks, months, even years, he'll strike again. I don't think we should let our guard down." Said another user in an online forum

"I'm honestly pretty surprised by how emotional this made me. I think this was news a lot of our soldiers in the US needed to affirm what they do. It has been a long and painful road in coming, but it was very welcome news." Said an American gentleman.
