Pakistan Lost to India in World Cup Semi Finals

on Thursday, 31 March 2011

After 8 years young Indian team will be playing final of the Cricket World Cup against Sri Lanka. Most of the Indian fans who are young and have not seen that last victory, or were too young at that time in 1983 to recognize such event. But today Indians fans and the team players as well are seeing themselves standing at the place where they will be playing for the final slot.

If India wins world cup final match, it will become the no. 1 team in the world in ICC ODI ranking, apart from being no. 1 in ICC test match rankings. While Sri Lankan team is all preparing to snatch this cup from ambitious Indian, Indians have proved in Wednesday's semi final match against Pakistan that their bowling is not second class, apart from world class batting.

Defending 260 for India could have been tough task for India, if Indian bowlers wouldn't have shown a consistence teamwork, all the bowlers managed to get 2 wickets each. In the batting department thanks to Sehwag who started with a blasting inning. Then to Sachin Tendulkar of course though he fell short of completing his 100th century (85 runs), and to Suresh Raina, whose batting at the crucial time helped India create a target of 261. Fro Pakistani Side it was Wahib Riaz who took maximum wickets and a five wicket haul.

Pakistan's main pacer, with whom they had very high expectation was played by Indians very easily, It was Wahib Riaz who made the difference.

Getting second, third, fourth and fifth life during the match, Sachin Tendulkar who was dropped 5 times said, "Five lives! God has been kind to me. It is not something which has happened to me earlier,"

The greatest contribution from Pakistani batsman was by Mohammed Hafeez (43), Asad Shafiq (30) and Misbah-ul-Haq (56), who could bring the match to tight situation or may also make Pakistan win if only Indian bowlers would have given chances.

While the performance of Indian bowling attack was one of the best in the tournament, all thw bowlers performed almost equally well, but It was Ashish nehra who could prove himself once again (2 Wickets with 3.3 Economy). He is the same bowler who got many criticizes and even abuses from some fans for not bowling well in the last over of India V/S South Africa match earlier in the tournament which caused a defeat to South Africa.

So India won Mohali now we have to See who wins Mumbai, Be prepared to support your favourite team, Sri Lanka VS India World Cup Final.

Nuclear Radioactive Plutonium Found in Soil in Japan

on Wednesday, 30 March 2011

Incidence of Reactor Explosion and nuclear radiation leak after math of 9 magnitude earthquake on richter scale followed by a devastating tsunami has taken a new deadly shape. Trace of radio active material, Plutonium have been found in soil at the Fukushima nuclear site which has raised alarm in the region and around the world on Tuesday.

Tokyo Electric Power Co said the radio active metal was found at low-risk levels in the few soil samples collected from the the facility. Though at this level it is not harmful for human beings but one thing is cleared that the reactor's containment mechanism has been failed.

Plutonium is an radio unstable metal which releases nuclear radiation that may cause irreparable damage to human tissues or possible mutation. The metal is also used in making nuclear bomb. Death by this metal can be mysterious this is why spies during cold war era in Soviet Union and USA used to be killed by adding a small amount of plutonium in their food, But the levels in the Japan site is so low that it would hardly harm anyone.

"Plutonium is a substance that's emitted when the temperature is high, and it's also heavy and so does not leak out easily," agency deputy director Hidehiko Nishiyama told a news conference.

"So if plutonium has emerged from the reactor, that tells us something about the damage to the fuel. And if it has breached the original containment system, it underlines the gravity and seriousness of this accident."

Reuters named this nuclear disaster as the worst in past 25 years. Opposition ministers in Japan blamed Naoto Kan in parliament for his inefficiency in relief work and incompetency in handling this disaster. Their main question was why the he did not widen the no entry zone. Kan said he was seeking advice on such a step, which would force 130,000 people to move in addition to 70,000 already displaced as quoted by the Reuters.

The disaster took lives of 10,000 civilians another 17,000 are still missing or dead, as the authorities have no information in it. reports says while the clearing or mess due to debris is going on some bodies have been found and have been sent for identification.

The condition in Japan soon went out of control after the incidence, Japan asked IAEA for help. Among the various international response, France, which is itself most nuclear energy dependent nation in the world has offered help to Japan by sending two nuclear experts to help deal with the problem. Nicolas Sarkozy will also be the first foreign leader to visit Japan after the disaster

Chandigarh roads, traffic

As the date of India Pakistan Semi Final Cricket Match is almost here, along with security measures the government has also come up with a traffic plan. The Chandigarh Police has issued a notice on Tuesday as an public advisory to avoid certain routes in the city to facilitate the movement of VIPs and security personal and help in decongestion of key areas.

"We have advised the public to avoid various roads, like the one connecting the airport with Tribune roundabout, PCA (Punjab Cricket Association) Stadium and Hotel Taj. These roads will be kept free as many VIPs will be using it from 8am to 11pm (Wednesday)," said a Chandigarh police official as quoted by the Times of India.

A high profile match which is crucial for both the teams to enter finals, presence of top leaders of both the countries with senior delegation, and presence of high profile businessman like Mukesh Ambani and Bollywood stars in the stadium on the game's day is very attractive to miscreants and terrorists, thus in this case India wouldn't like to leave any gap whether it is security or traffic arrangements.

Mohali, which is hosting this match, is a satellite city of Chandigarh just 10 KM away. Famous for IT industries, Mohali is also known as the city of one of the most beautiful cricket stadium in India.

"We have advised the public to use alternate routes to visit various sectors in the city on Wednesday from 8am to 11pm," he added.

Manmohan Singh and his wife Gursharan Kaur  will leave Delhi by special PM's plane and are expected to reach Chandigarh airport around 11am, from where they go to Punjab Raj Bhavan and then to the PCA Stadium around 2pm, officials told TOI.

Gilani, Prime Minister of Pakistan who is here on a special invitation by Indian Prime Minister will stay at Hotel Taj, he is expected to arrive at the airport at 1pm and will go directly to the stadium. They will have lunch and dinner in between and might also discuss on key issues. This is what some media calls Cricket Diplomacy.

If you are going to Chandigarh tomorrow then you will find a 15 KM chain of just Armed Security personnel guarding the city between Hotel Taj and the stadium, as the teams and Pakistan i Prime Minister are staying in hotel Taj. The team buses will take a five-km longer route to avoid the busy city roads.
Match starts at 14:30 local time (IST). But spectators are allowed to secure their seats and make themselves comfortable and prepared with goodies and food stuff as soon as from 6 AM.

In the first session of the match New Zealand could score only 217 runs, but still Lankan batsman faced difficulty to beat them as New Zealand's bowling was exact what was required in the game. From New Zealand Styris out on 57 , Guptill on 39 and Taylor made 36 runs. Whereas Mendis and Melinga got out three Players each . In a response by Sri Lanka, Dilshan scored 73 and Sangakkara scored 54 runs. New Zealand Bowler Southee managed to get three wickets.

New Zealand will be mighty pleased with their effort but they were unlucky that they came up short. On a pitch that was slowing up considerably, Dilshan and Sangakkara played a superb innings. They carted the Kiwi bowlers to all parts of the
ground and it seemed that the game was headed towards an early finish. They went past their fifties and shared a 120 run partnership to put SL on course.

However, three wickets fell for just nine runs and NZ gave a good fight. Chamara Silva and Samaraweera struggled to score runs and NZ were slowly but surely applying pressure. Silva continued his poor run, but Samaraweera and Mathews held their nerve till the end.

Mathews, aided by the runner, struck some crucial blows to give the Sri Lankans a thrilling five wicket win. With this victory, Sri Lanka have booked a place in the finals. This is their second consecutive final appearance and they will be really determined to win this now. For the Kiwis, it was their sixth appearance in a World Cup semi-final and they fell short yet again.

India or Pakistan? Who Will Win?; Discussion, Strategy and Analysis

on

India pakistan cricket
This is the question rising in everyone's mind, when Cricket World Cup 2011 is going on. Both the teams are meeting in semi final on March 30th for the first time after a long time and Pakistan is going to play in India after long 3 years, due to a ban on movement of Pakistanis in India after terrorist attack on Mumbai.

The question is simple, but no one can answer it till the last few minutes of the game, but still everyone in the subcontinent is excited, in fact in the whole cricket playing world. Fans in India and Pakistan takes it as a matter of pride of the nation, whereas people around the world do business on this day as any cricket match involving India and Pakistan is the most profitable match.

The passion which the people in subcontinent derive is from the overall love for the game cricket, and the history of four wars between India and Pakistan. This is the day when separatist and civilians in Pakistan and same in India gets united, Seeing their main rival on the screen.

Before the match, every discussion forum, every facebook page and facebook question is talking about this.

So, the answer of the question we have still not given that who will win. Here is what we found people discussing  online and offline.

"India definitely will be the favourite for the semi-final match. If Pak bowlers bowl extremely well then Pak can beat India." Says a Canadian on a forum.

A Palistani fan says. "Because our batsman will feast on their rubbish bowling and our bowlers are good enough to contain the Indian batting line-up." He further added, "Our bowling has been on point, Younis averages a healthy amount against India, as does Misbah. Memories of Afridi's brutal 45 ball ton, our spin bowling is better than theres." Comparing present scenario with history, he said, "We tend to bring our A-game against India. History is against us when it comes to WC encounters, but in those encounters India was the underdog. We're the underdog now, and that title really suits us."

An English person says, "I think India are the favorites. Tendulkar will have another epic innings (like March 2003), and India's batsmen may just be able to withstand Pakistan's bowling lineup.Of course, Pakistan's bowlers may also savage the Indian batsman and give them a low enough total for Pakistan to chase. But that is probably less likely."

Ricky Ponting, Captain of Australia, which is out of the world cup forst time in past three sessions sue to a defeat against India in quarter final says, "Yes we lost to both India and Pakistan, but the quality of play shown by India was slightly better, I think Indians are still favourites."

As India's batting line is highly talented people advice to prefer chasing rather than setting up the target. But Seeing Pakistan's bowling performance throughout the world cup, India should set target because while chasing they will have more pressure. India and Pakistan match is all about pressure. Comment if you don't agree.

While Mohali pitch is expected to be prepared for spinners, Indians should play with two spinners. Strategy of both theam would be to get the top order batsmen out and set spinners on task. While Shahid Afridi of Pakistan has been very successful with his spin ball, Harbhajan Singh has not got that success till now. Let us also not forget Yuvraj, who has proven himself in this session both with bowling and batting.

India vs Pakistan: First match between the two Since 26/11

on Monday, 28 March 2011

THE PAKISTANI team was welcomed with high spirits by India, when they arrived here on March 25. They will be playing against India for the first time in the Indian sub-continent since the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks. The security forces went into top gear as soon as the Pakistani team landed in Chandigarh - covering
them in a tight blanket of security.

With more than 1,000 security personnel to take care of Afridi and Co., the hotel in which they are staying in Chandigarh has been sanitised for any kind of external threat.

Security of the players has been the top most priority for Indian security forces. In this regard, they have handed a list of dos and don'ts to the team. The route
by which the players will be taken to the Mohali cricket stadium for practice has been kept a secret, as this is the Pakistan cricket team's maiden India visit since the Mumbai attacks.

The clash between India and Pakistan in the semi-final of the cricket ICC World Cup 2011 is the most awaited one, and migh come with some risks of terrorist activities. All necessary steps have been taken in this regard. For March 30, the stadium area has been made a no-flying zone, keeping in mind that high-profile dignitaries are expected to visit the stadium to witness the crucial encounter between the two teams vying for a place in the finals.

Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh will is likely to turn up to watch this cricket extravaganza. He has also invited his Pakistani counterpart Yusuf Raza Gilani and President Asif Ali Zardari to watch the game. The invitation has been accepted by Gilani but Zardari will not be coming.
The craze to watch an Indo-Pak match is so much that tickets have already been
booked and those who are very keen in watching the match are even buying the
tickets in black.
The black market for the tickets is supposedly doing roaring business. The tickets, which are originally for Rs. 250 are being sold for Rs. 2000, and the ticket that costs Rs. 2000 is being sold at the rate of Rs. 4000.

The buzz around the match is unbelievable. The media has tons of stories on the
semi-final encounter. Hopes are riding high, and all that is left is to wait till Wednesday when the real battle on the field of cricket will begin. The Mohali stadium is all set to witness the top league game, and so are cricket-lovers on both sides of the border.

This match is also likely to generate emotions on the field when players of both teams get into the thick of things and situations get tense. One hopes the India-Pakistan turns out to be the best match of World Cup 2011 - with a high dose of pressure and entertainment. May the best team win!

Pakistan Now Prefers China Over US for Arm Imports

on

Pakistan
After a long strategic arms buy and sell relationship with US, Pakistan is now slowly backing away from US while cozying more with China.

China has proved to be an all time, all weather friend of Pakistan, whereas US was mere a business friend who made India-Pakistan fight so they could sell their weapons to Pakistan.

One of the major reason of Pakistan inclining more towards China is America's less interest in supporting their nuclear weapon as well as power production program. As it fears that nuclear weapons could possibly fall into hands of extremists in the country.

Pakistan has recently in a joint venture with China developed a new fighter aircraft JF-17 on par with international standards. China, the second largest economy, understands Pakistan and its problems better than America and it also shares a common enemy, i.e India.

Apart form the new jet fighter partnership, Pakistan's recently test-fired nuclear-capable missile, short range surface to surface Hatf-2 is also developed with the help of China.

Pakistan's membership in CENTO and SEATO was the main cause of US supporting it and not India. Soon it became the major supplier of arms and weapons even after Pakistan left those groups. A strong nation supporting Pakistan at its back caused India to incline towards Soviet Union, though it never signed Warsaw pact or any other military deal, keeping its non alignment policy intact. India's growing relationship with USSR caused US to support Pakistan even more to keep a check of Soviet influence, thus it became a chain reaction, a cyclic event.

After the 9/11 attack on US and later finding hand of Pakistanis in many other terrorist attacks around the world. The US began to back away from the deals.

While India enjoys carrying nuclear research, nuclear technology development, trade and supply from NSG (Nuclear Supplier Group) legally, Pakistan also requires an international help to support them during the present energy crisis as well as to catch up with India in nuclear technology and the only nation which can fulfill there this requirement is China. Pakistan has also signed a nuclear deal with China which will allow China to support Pakistan's civil nuclear program. The deal though has no international recognition and is against NSG norms.

"The US no longer fully supports the military ambitions of a Pakistan that is being destabilised by an insurgency it cannot control, rising radicalism and anti-westernism, and a government considered by some too weak and corrupt," an unnamed Pakistani officer said., as quoted by Bennet  & Coleman Group. "That led Pakistan to replace the US with China as a main source of defence material, at least in terms of arsenal, development and training."

Last year when US delivered the F-16 jets, Pakistan had already ordered further 250 JF-17 jets from China with Chinese SD10 homing missiles and radar system to be equipped in that. These jets, eqipped with missiles and radars are expected to be delivered in Pakistan in next 5-10 years.

Another deal which shows Pakistan love China more than US is a deal worth $1.3 billion USD which allows Pakistan to receive J-10 fighters and six submarines from China.

In 70's Pakistan strengthened its military with American money and weapons, today it is strengthening its Navy, Air force with Chinese weapons, to counter India's rapid expansion of three arms of the force.

After Successfully Making their way in Ajdabiya and regaining control over the city, Libyan rebels recaptured four more towns of Ras Lanuf, Brega, Uqayla and Bin Jawad as pro-Gaddafi forces withdrew under pressure from allied air strikes. Rebels now in high hope and passion are moving quickly towards Gaddafi's heartland of Sirte.

In a move of expanding engagement in Libya, members of NATO met in Brussels on Sunday evening, also to discuss the engagement rules.

Mohammed Ali el-Atwish, a 42-year-old rebel fighter in Bin Jawad, told AFP news agency, "Gaddafi's forces are now scared rats, they are dropping their weapons and uniforms and dressing as civilians." He further said in confidence, "We are no longer concerned about Gaddafi's forces at all."

Roberts gates, US defence Secretary with Hilary Clinton said, "we have largely accomplished our goals in Col Gaddafi's Libya."

"We have taken out his armour," Mr Gates said, "we would soon relinquishing our leading role in the coalition."

Mrs Clinton said: "We're beginning to see, because of the good work of the coalition, his troops begin to turn back toward the west - and to see the opposition begin to reclaim the ground they had lost."

In another report, France said that its aircraft had destroyed at least five Libyan government jets and two helicopters on Saturday night at a government air base near rebel-held Misrata.

In an official statement by the Libyan government it says that coalition forces have been carrying out air strikes between Ajdabiya and the town of Sirte, as quoted by BBC.

The World Reporter Observed Earth hour

on Sunday, 27 March 2011

While we wrote an article on promoting Earth hour for the cause of better environment and a move against climate change. We were not just writing but celebrated this day in our own style. While the whole staff turned their lights off at 8:30 PM (local time) we also darkened our website to save electricity.

Did you know that white screens consumes more power than black screens? Still white is favourite of all the major websites, as it looks simple and easy to read.

So, The World Reporter contributed this way not just for an hour but for the whole day. Saving 5MW, small but still a big contribution.

We loved the response by the readers, and are happy that many are concerned about climate change, we saw 19% increase in our total facebook like, and 11% rise in total RSS subscribers. Thanks for your response, it motivates us to write more.

So, the earth hour is over on a worldwide basis but let us still celebrate it individually and contribute daily too.

Musharraf Named Accused for Assassination of Benazir Bhutto; Can be Soon Arrested

on Saturday, 26 March 2011

Benazir & Musharraf
After almost a decade long rule in Pakistan, Musharraf had agreed to consider conducting of elections in Pakistan in the year 2008.

People of Pakistan who were fed up of military rule welcomed Benazir Bhutto, who came back from self exile in London to contest in election, with slogans like long live our leader, daughter of the East (As she is known to the world).

But the public had no idea that the country which had almost converted into the breeding place of home grown terrorists will eat their own leader. She was shot on 27th Dec, 2007 at the end of the rally, but the main reason of her death was the explosion that caused her head to strike the roof of the vehicle just after the rally was over.

Sooner or later nobody took responsibility of the assassination. The case was also looking as if it has frozen. Some class of people started believing that it might be her husband (Asif Ali Zardari, current President of Pakistan) who got her killed to become President of Pakistan.

Musharraf refused to help much on this case, and set himself in exile in London. At this, theories started to build up of possible involvement of Musharraf in the case of Benazir Bhutto's Assassination.

Soon he was named as an "absconding accused", by Federal Investigation Agency of Pakistan.

Recently during the hearing of Benazir Bhutto’s assassination case on Saturday 26th March, 2011 in Adiala Jail, The Federal Investigation Agency's counsel told the court that letters had been sent to the British home ministry to issue a arrest warrant against former President Pervez Musharraf.

Musharraf, who has formed a political party (All Pakistan Muslim League) with the plan of contesting in next proper democratic election in 2013, will now find it difficult to do so.

Earth Hour to Be Observed Today Worldwide

on

India Gate, New Delhi: On Earth Hour
In a move to conserve electricity, protect environment, save trees, and reduce green house gas emission and thus all related and inter-related effects, once again Earth Hour or Earth Day is being celebrated or observed today (26th March, 2011)  around the world.

It was started in 2007 in Sydney, Australia, now it has gain popularity around the world.

If you also want to take part in this global event, all you have to do is turn off your lights, fan, AC, and all electric appliances exactly at 8:30 PM for an hour on Saturday 26th March 2011.

We have just optimized our website for Earth Hour, you can see the difference in our logo.

Officials in northern Illinois said By observing Earth Hour in 2008, where residents had voluntarily shut down the power had reduced the same amount of carbon dioxide as 104 acres of trees.

Dubai's Electricity and Water Authority reported savings of 100 megawatt-hours of electricity. This represented a 2.4% reduction in demand compared to before the hour began , in 2008.

Christchurch, New Zealand, reported a drop of 13% in electricity demand, in 2008.

In 2009, Swedish electricity operator Svenska Kraftnät recorded a 2.1% decrease in power consumption whereas Malaysia recorded a dip of 550MW during Earth Hour whereas Toronto, Canada saw a decrease of 15.1%.

Some critics say that Earth hour hardly brings any change and in turn disturbs the usual processes. But in actual earth hour is just a move to create awareness among the public to know the importance of electricity, as well as the climate. Every Year after observing this day, government organizations around the world shows the outcome of savings. The result is much enough to motivate us and turn off the light and fans when not needed.

Yes, Earth Hour can only be hosted once in a year worldwide, but it is upon us to observe it everyday. Save Energy by switching off electrical appliances which are not required.

Well known but ignored Five Easy Ways to Save Electricity.

1. When not watching TV, instead of keeping on standby, turn it off. (Standby is the condition when a red, or any other colour light stays on waiting, which says that I am waiting and listening to your remote's command)

2. Enjoy the natural breeze in summers, if it is not possible then use AC in a good insulated room with insulated doors, floor and ceilings. We often like to turn the temperature on AC down to 16-19 deg C, but we all know 25 deg C is comfortable enough for us, so set temperature wisely.

3. You are working on your laptop and your wife, or your mom calls you down to have dinner, we know it will take more than half an hour but still we just leave our laptop like that or better in sleep mode. When windows has a hibernate feature we should make use of that.

4. Yes this is annoying for most of us, but avoid opening and closing of refrigerator again and again. Take things out or put it in at once.

5. Last but most important, switch off the lights and fans or AC of the room where you are not sitting. Or better families should spend some time together in one room and turn off fans and lights of all other rooms.

NATO Divided on Libya; Germany France Annoyed.

on

FM Westerwelle with Chancellor Angela Merkel
The Local reported Angela Merkel’s government criticizing the not so good policy on Libya, calling for a complete oil embargo. She said accusing NATO's allies of playing a double game in north Africa. One side they are buying oil from Libya and on the other side bombing the same country.

US though has not bought much oil from Libya in history, it is France and Italy (Total and ENI) who are major buyer of Libyan oil and also have a major role in air strikes on Libya.

In a response to the sanctions imposed on Libya by US, A trader working for a non-U.S. oil major said that U.S. citizens were now forbidden from dealing with Libyan oil.

In between the Foreign Minister of Germany Guido Westerwelle on Friday criticized French President Nicolas Sarkozy’s idea of eliminating other Arab rulers with Libya style military intervention if they push their own people violently.

"Every ruler should understand, and especially every Arab ruler should understand that the reaction of the international community and of Europe will from this moment on each time be the same," Sarkozy said in Brussels on Thursday night, according to online news source EUobserver. "We will be on the side of peaceful protesters who must not be repressed with violence."

Sarkozy in a move to halt his decreasing popularity in his own country took a leading step of military intervention in Libya to impose no fly zone. He does feel that whole of the Europe is with him and agrees with his point, but it was just his feeling, as on the other corner his decision annoyed Germans who were not consulted on this issue.

Germany and Russia who are slightly against the use of military force in Libya, were not properly consulted and during the UN meeting their queries and doubts were not cleared. While they abstained the United Nations Security Council vote, the resolution was still passed in UN for the use of military force in the African country.

“What we need is a political process – this must now be prepared,” Westerwelle said putting more emphasis on a political process than a military one.

Meanwhile, NATO members especially France is annoyed with Germany's sudden change in mood and calling it non supportive in the military operation against Libya.

Such a divided thinking within a military group can be proved dangerous for NATO, but there is no fault of Germany. If France really wanted Germany to participate, they should have convinced them in every manner.

Meanwhile Germany has offered to increase its presence in Afghanistan to help NATO countries as it in no condition is willing to participate in Libya. Germany will now cooperate by sending upto 300 air force personnel to fly AWACS (Airborne Warning and Control System)  surveillance planes over Afghanistan.

AWACS has the ability of detecting any far away object on the ground like a plane taking off, or the movement of tanks without actually going inside the territory. These systems are mounted on the plane which hover around a same position in the sky to monitor things happening far away

6.8 Magnitude Earthquake Hit Myanmar

on Friday, 25 March 2011

File Picture: Cracks in a temple due to earthquake

While the horrifying pictures of Japan quake had still not left the minds of millions around the world, a new earthquake of magnitude 6.8 rocked Mayanmar (Burma) a country bordering India in the east. Killing more than 70 people and injuring around 111.

The epicentre of the earthquake was at the point a few kilometres north of Tachileik town in Shan State bordering Thailand. The tremors of the earthquake were so strong that it were felt hundreds of kilometres away in Bangkok and Hanoi (Capital of Vietnam).

Other than the loss of lives, Myanmar state radio said 390 houses, 14 Buddhist monasteries and nine government buildings were damaged. The private relief agency World Vision said water tanks and wells were also damaged, creating water shortage in the region.

The military government in Myanmar maintains a tough policy on media, thus media is not free to report much on this incidence. Also the officials figures which the government is providing are subjected to cross checking with the figures of various NGOs and international relief organizations.

The present infrastructural development in the region is so bad that the relief workers are having difficulties in their operation.

The U.N. officials have assured that the medicines in the affected region will be supplied as soon as possible along with doctors and aid workers in cooperation with Myanmar Red Cross Soceity.

"We are worried that the area might be hit with stronger quakes. There was another quake at 7 a.m. this morning," said Somsri Meethong of the Mae Sai District office, referring to a 4.9 aftershock. "I had to run again like last night. What we have seen on TV about Japan added to our fear."

Brazil and US to Reset Their Relations During Obama's Visit

on

When President of America, Barack Obama arrived in Brazil, continuing the war in Libya, Brazil was considering proposing an idea to name the city Rio de Janeiro as World heritage Site in UNESCO. While the west ignored the new emerging countries, Brazil, India and China were growing with a big boom.

Today Brazil has come all by itself to this position that US President is forced to look again after his policies. Obama arrived in Brazil to press a "reset button" in their relationship with Brazil just how he did with Russia (U.S and Russia, undoing the 'cold war effect')

"What is clear is that in an increasingly global economy, our partnership with these nations is only going to become more vital," US President, Obama said on Saturday in a radio.
Though there is less expectation among Brazilians of any big political changes, the current visit is more focussed on business. There are less chances of talks about Brazil's permanent membership in UNSC.

As the position of US in terms of popularity is going down in oil rich middle east and Venezuela, Brazil's newly discovered oil reserves is the thing which has made US to look southwards. The reserves are estimated between 30 billion to 80 billion barrels. If the estimation is true, which is most likely, Brazil will be counted among top 10 countries in the world in terms of reserve quantity.

Brazil which is already independent in energy production and consumption has considers new oil reserves as a good source of revenue through exporting.

Discovery of oil reserves so close to US has no doubt brought smiles in white house, but it couldn't stay for long as China has replaced US as Brazil's top trading partner in the year 2010, while Argentina, South Korea and Germany also reserving their shares. While China has already reserved 200,000 barrels of oil a day for a decade1, US doesnt want to be too late to miss any deal.

Weeks After Japan Tsunami, 27000 Missing; Cleaning in Progress

on

Japanese Tsunami signboard after two weeks

Even after two weeks of the earthquake and tsunami which devastated Japan on March 11 around 240,000 people are sill shelters, reports Japan Today. While official death toll figures hover around 10,000, National Police Agency reported that more than 27,000 people were either missing or confirmed dead

While nuclear radiation leak had taken a dangerous shape and diverted the attention of international media from the actual earthquake and tsunami story, the damage reported to infrastructure, development and houses and roads is estimated by the Japanese officials to total upto 25 trillion yen (308.65 billion U.S. dollars).

Local police in Miyagi perfecture have posted information about more than 2,000 recovered bodies, including details of clothing and body type, in hopes of identifying them on their website

Reports of Japan re-entering the economic development trach as the highways and ports in the disaster-hit areas have been reopened, though part of the bullet train service on the Tohoku Shinkansen Line is still suspended, while 55 sewage plants remain disabled.

Recently the education board of Hiroshima Prefecture came forward telling its counterpart in Miyagi Prefecture that it could accept around 150 elementary school children and their 10 teachers for one year at two school buildings in the city of Etajima that are currently not in use, reported Japan Today. Children will be accommodated in public hostel facilities

Another city in the same Hiroshima prefecture, Akitakata, is also preparing to accept around 80 elementary school students so that their studies and future is not disturbed because of this natural calamity, the education board said.

Though most of the things are resuming or have been resumed, the toughest task in front of the Japanese authorities is how to clear the rubble, the broken pieces of glass, cars, trees, animal and  human bodies, etc. Now after two weeks of the incidence hundreds of groups are turning up voluntarily to take this task on their hand.

While the World Bank has estimated that the reconstruction of the damaged areas in Japan could take five years, after effects of this natural calamity is now being considered as th most expensive disaster till now. The mess looks endless in Japan, and cost to cleaning it up is unknown.

In an effort to support rescuers and search for survivors much of the street debris has been cleaned up by the government and soldiers. Now, even though chances of finding someone still alive are very less, officials are concerned to avoid any accidental cleaning of corpses with debris. Corpses can not be cleaned up or buried without identifying and notifying the family.

Rebels Regain Hold of Ajdabiya in Libya

Rebels regained city of ajdabiya in libya
Image from flickr, hover to read description
Ajdabiya a major oil producing town in eastern Libya has come back in the control of the rebels, who have been fighting against the Libyan Leader Col. Muammar Gaddafi. Situated 160 Kilometres south of Benghazi where another struggle between Libyan troops and rebels is going on.The city of Ajdabiya was captured by Gaddafi forces last week. Several hundreds of troops accumulated in he morning before marching in the city.

A rebel told AFP, "They are shooting at us with tanks, artillery and Grad missiles," rebel said returning from the frontline. "We have nothing but light weapons whereas they have heavy ones."

Having lower quality and lighter weapons than the Libyan government troops, these rebels managed to get back the hold on the city just with the help of some Kalashnikov and knives. While tanks were guarding western and northern entrances to the city, rebels entered the city from several fronts and got within one kilometre to the city's eastern entrance, because of huge engagement of regime loyal forces in the northern region of Libya by Western forces.

In Benghazi, rebel military council spokesman Ahmed Omar Bani told AFP: "We are trying to negotiate with these people (Gaddafi troops) in Ajdabiya because we are almost sure that they have lost contact with their headquarters." adding further: "Truthfully some of the Ajdabiya militias have asked to surrender, to be left alone and to go back home. But we cannot leave them to go without interrogation because the answers we get from them will be useful in saving lives." Mr Bani further told the media that the rebels were communicating with the troops through a sheikh in a mosque in the city.

Why Russia Didn't Use Veto for Libya?

on Wednesday, 23 March 2011

Vladimir putin, prime minister of russia, veto voting
Vladimir Putin, Prime Minister of Russia (Flickr)

Russia which has a significant interest in Libya kept itself quiet when other countries were voting for passing a resolution to enforce a no-flying zone in Libya.

Just after the west began to use its force in Libya, Russians came up with condemnations and criticizes. At this anyone could get confuse that why Russia didn't prevent the bill from passing. Russia and China both are permanent members of United Nations Security Council (UNSC)  both have veto power which means they could block anything what they don't agree.

We can explain veto in simple terms, if members of UNSC decides on something, then that can not be implemented until all the countries having veto powers agree on that. The countries which can do that are US, Russia, China, UK, France. India with few other countries being non permanent member of UNSC doesn't posses veto power.

Authorities in Russia says that they were not made clear on what was going to be done in Libya and what would be the objective of the mission. Russia agreed what is happening in Libya is't good that's why they wanted to do something for civilians but didn't know that west will respond with huge force killing those civilians itself. Serving no purpose. Russia and Germany both agreed on this point that they weren't given enough convincing answers so they decided neither to back out nor to support.

While this is the exact reason which Russia states for not using its veto power, but Russia if it will loose something then will also gain few things with this decision. Knowing that now Gaddafi may eventually fall after this huge operation by western forces, Russia wouldn't like to loose contracts and deals with the new government which will be forming in Libya by helping Gaddafi. Thus, Russia can maintain ties with Libya intact.

In the Image above is the Prime Minister of Russia, Vladimir Putin, who has also served as President of Russia for two consecutive terms, is responsible for bringing back the much power and respect today Russia has which it had lost after the collapse of Soviet Union.

After a retreat from Afghanistan and being a victim of Islamic militants of Chechnya, Russia wouldn't like to mess with another Islamic country which could raise general anger among Muslims around the world against Russia. Till now Arab league is also backing western strikes, but now that Gaddafi is calling all Islamic countries to help him fight against west, we don't know who are actually going to help America and who are going to help Gaddafi.

Russia had this opportunity to come again in world decision making and policy setting group, but couldn't do much as it is not ready to take any risk right now when its economy and relations with west are improving. This is true since the fall of Soviet Union, western powers are doing just what they want and attack anyone. Iran, Iraq, Libya, were safe during Soviet Union's period.

Today's Russia is not what Soviet Union was, and it requires to build a platform once again to regain that image which it had that time.

Gaddafi Asked Islamic Nations for Help; Pledges Victory

Libyan Head of State Colonel Moamer Kadhafi (L) and his wife Suffiya (R) wave to the crowd 03 December 1985 in Dakar
Image from flickr
In an effort to rally his supporters Col Muammar Faddafi made his first public appearance in a week amidst of raids by coalition forces in the nation.

It is believed that in a response to the air strike on his compound on Sunday, Gadafi urged all Islamic armies to join him to fight against the "crusaders" (according to him).

"Long live Islam everywhere. All Islamic armies must take part in the battle, all free [people] must take party in the battle... We will be victorious in the end," he said in a short address carried on state TV. "In the short term, we will beat them. In the long term, we will beat them."

He finished his speech saying: "I do not fear storms that sweep the horizon, nor do I fear the planes that throw black destruction. I am resistant, my house is here in my tent... I am the rightful owner, and the creator of tomorrow. I am here. I am here. I am here."

War is still going on between Col Gaddafi's loyal forces and rebels. Supplies are running low in the rebel-held town of Misrata. "The situation in the local hospital is disastrous," a doctor said, as quoted by BBC.
"The doctors and medical teams are exhausted beyond human physical ability and some of them cannot reach the hospital because of tanks and snipers."

Rebels who are holding eastern parts of Libya are now getting low supplies of arms and weapons, some of them are thinking to ask west for more help while some are happy with their hold on east and believing that other Libyans will also start a revolution seeing the rebel towns in freedom.

The sound of allied strikes is still being heard around Tripoli overnight. More than 162 Tomahawk cruise missiles have been fired so far.

US to Hand Over The Command of Military Operation in Libya to UK, France or NATO

on Tuesday, 22 March 2011

US to Hand Over The Command of Military Operation in Libya to UK, France or NATO
Image from flickr
Robert Gates, defence secretary of US said on Monday, that US is considering handing over the command of the military operations in Libya either directly under French, British or Nato's control in few day.

"I think that there are a couple of possibilities : one is British and French leadership , another is the use of the Nato machinery and I think we just have to work out the command and control that is most accommodating to all of the members of the coalition," Gates said.

BBC reported that The operation of stationing British aircrafts to a base in southern Italy which is being used for missions will almost be done. RAF Typhoon fighters have taken part in their first mission to patrol the zone.

The government of Libya says that strike is killing more civilians than military personnel, and in the third night air and missile strike by coalition forces have killed many civilians.

Denying that Gaddafi is the target of strikes, explosions by coalition forces and Libya's anti aircraft gun could be heard near Col Muammar Gaddafi's compound in the capital, Tripoli

It is being reported that clashes between loyal forces of Gaddafi and rebels is still going on at various places even after a declaration of Ceasefire by Gaddafi. In the eastern Libya, Gaddafi's troops have halted a rebel advance outside the town of Ajdabiya.

Talking about shifting the command of operation in Libya to another country or group, US said there policy demands them to remove Gaddafi from power, but they are doing military intervention in Libya just to protect the people.

Whether there aim is to remove Gaddafi or protect the people of Libya, there is no doubt that the method which they used has already killed many people.

Russia on Military Operations in Libya

on Monday, 21 March 2011

Vladimir Putin on military intervention in Libya
While military operations led by US were almost at its peak in Libya, much awaited comment from Russian side arrived criticizing the military action. Linking American military operation with crusades, Russian Prime Minister, Vladimir Putin called the UN Security Council resolution "inadequate and flawed." He further added, "It allows anyone to take all, any action against a sovereign state. It reminds me of a medieval call to crusade when someone is calling someone to go to a particular place and something to exempt."

Russia being a permanent member of UN Security Council didn't use its veto power to block the resolution on attacking Libya, but urged the nations to maintain peace and halt the military operations

Recalling how during the presidency of Bill Clinton US bombed Belgrade, and during the presidency of George HW Bush and George W. Bush, US raided Iraq and Afghanistan, he described the U.S. policy of interfering in other country's internal matter as a sustainable trend, in which there is no conscience, no logic.

Calling his words as his personal views and not of the Russian Government, he said, "though the parameter of the Libyan regime does not fit the criteria of a democratic country, but this does not mean that someone is allowed to interfere in the internal political conflict, raiding it and protecting the another party helping them against the government."
In addition, the President of Russia, Medvedev said that Russia will not participate in any operation against Libya, But Moscow is ready to offer mediation in peace talks in Libya, so far no one has either from Libya or Russia offered any negotiations talk.

Libya's Nuclear Quest, Can Libya Use Nuclear Weapon?

on

Licorne shot
Libya could use the Nuclear Weapon if it had, but the question is where is their nuclear weapon?

Excerpts from our previous article (Is Pakistan playing with the world?) :
To give a hard response to India, Pakistan acquired nuclear and missile technology from China and is been accused of giving this technology illegally to North Korea, Libya and Iran. Which is a matter of worry  for America and the world.
It is very clear that Libya at many times tried to acquire the nuclear bomb and had succeeded as well upto few stages but was caught by the international intelligence. In October 2003, a US-led international operation to discourage illegal nuclear trade intercepted a German freight bound for Libya containing uranium enrichment components.

According to another report, Gaddafi had sent his deputy, Jallud, to People's Republic of China in an attempt to purchase nuclear weapons to deter Israeli nuclear program, though the visit proved to be unsuccessful.

In a move to achieve a nuclear bomb, Libya had tried to initiate many bilateral negotiations with other countries to create better nuclear research facilities and power plants, since Libya's domestic technology was very weak, many students from the nation belonging to nuclear energy fields went to United States and European universities to pursue advance studies. According to Libya-Argentina nuclear cooperation treaty in 1974, Argentina provided with equipment and technical training.

In an inspection which was done after Gaddafi's December 2003 decision to disarm, it was made confirmed that Libya had actually obtained yellow cake from Niger in 1978.

In 1976, France had agreed to setup a nuclear research plant in Libya to power a water desalination plant.  Just after two years of that, Libya and India  had agreed to cooperate in the peaceful application of nuclear energy, on par with India's "atoms for peace" policy. Though all these were of little help for Libya, major changes came when there cooperation started with Pakistan. Pakistan had allegedly provided drafts and all technological information to Libya. (Read: Is Pakistan playing with the world?)

But later Gaddafi felt the need of shifting away from weapons and nuclear bomb, which he actually did not require. His only demand was either Israel should drop the nuclear program or all Arab nations must be allowed to carry their program. HE had made his mind that before stepping down and making his son the leader of the country, he would like to get rid of all weapon and military mess. He had declared nuclear disarmament. Though he didn't have any ready bomb, he did possess Biological and Chemical warfare.

Today when west is attacking Libya, they know that Libya doesn't possess nuclear, otherwise things would have been different. Because Gaddafi could have gone to any extent to save him and his cause. But one thing is for sure very true. If Libyans had nuclear bomb west would have thought thrice before attacking. Or might not have attacked at all.

It is good that Libya doesn't have bomb otherwise things would have been disastrous, but it not good that West is raiding Libya this way. Everyone knows West has power, if they would have use this force in making Gaddafi understand the cause of rebels and setting up peace in the region in non military way, then it would have been better. Pity that UN considered raiding Libya as its first option.
