A massive publicity drive has begun in India, to save tiger (national animal of India) from extinction. Feared and worshipped in equal measure, the tiger - one of the world's largest predators - is an icon of India's cultural and natural heritage.

The global wild tiger population is thought to be at an all-time low of 3,200, down from about 20,000 in the 1980s and 100,000 a century ago. At the turn of the 20th century, there were an estimated 40,000 tigers in India. Many were shot down by English men during British regime for their skin and other things. Such a cowardly act of shooting down of tigers used to be considered as an act of bravery at that time.

New Delhi recently asked Beijing for its help to control trafficking but no official agreement was reached. As China illegally encourages poaching and hunting in India for their traditional Chinese medicines

Afghanistan towards instability

on Friday, 5 February 2010

Obama has come to a plan of withdrawing America led NATO troops from Afghanistan after so many abeyance near the end of next year, a decision which has annoyed India and other nations which are favourite targets of terrorists. The notorious and much castigated Taliban which has been abashing the Afghans for years is still active and cannot be left alone half torn. There is very much possibility of Taliban of recapturing Afghanistan once it is left.
Taliban is the creation of American intelligence agency CIA which trained the mujaheddin to fight a guerrilla war against soviets. After the pullout by Soviets, Taliban was furnished and nurtured with Pakistan's abet. Pakistan used it as a launch pad for strikes against India and always turned the blame on Anarchistic elements in Afghanistan. Even today for the solution for Afghanistan Pakistan supports the consideration of abstemious or moderate Taliban for setting up a better government system. Which may not be an amenable deal as Taliban may once again grow and this time will be more powerful.
American pullout from Afghanistan will give a misinterpretation to extremists that they have overwhelmed another omnipotent super power and will encourage their new callow reprobates. There still are many questions as how will it effect other parts of the world, most significantly India, Pakistan, Iran and Central Asia. India has already a huge presence in Afghanistan. It is working on multi projects to improve the connectivity throughout Afghanistan. India has also joined hands with Iran and Russia to build highways and connect it to the Iranian sea port to conclude its interdependency on Pakistan for access to the sea. The presence of India in Afghanistan is sometimes belied by Pakistan as India's plan to encircle it from all the sides. Think tanks around the world believes Pakistan's bellicose behaviour is because of the fear of India may influence Afghanistan in the near future.

At one side foreign troops are preventing Afghanistan from Taliban and extremisms, and on the other hand Taliban and Islamic extremists are cultivating opium which is believed to be one of the major source of their funding, by putting lives of milion of civilians around the world at risk.
Pakistan has already declared if India does some mischievous act, it won't mind inviting Chinese navy to its newly constructed naval port developed by China on Pakistani shores. Pakistan is more interested to continue building bunkers and tunnels along Indian borders covertly instead of controlling situation in its western borders. After the abdication of Pakistan's military ruler Gen. Pervez Musharraf, Pakistan has become an uncontrollable base of terrorists. Under this scenario it is even harder to safeguard Afghanistan, India and rest of the world. Director of the India-Afghanistan, Prof. Amitabh Matto from Kashmir says: "India is seen as an important player in the security, stability, and development of Afghanistan." However, he added that India should not play a military action in Afghanistan even though it is much needed by Afghan government for country's safety, as it will aggravate tensions with Pakistan and India may become a frequent target of Taliban.
Sources believe that India’s only military involvement in Afghanistan is to train Afghan Army. India in a covenant with Russia and Tajikistan now maintains an airbase in Tajikistan a few Kilometres away from Afghanistan and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK) for any hostility if occurs in Pakistan occupied Kashmir or Afghanistan. India is one of the largest aid contributors to Afghanistan. India will never afford to lose Afghanistan due to its strategic position.
The notion that the Taliban is there to recapture Afghanistan is very clear as recently Taliban attacked the heart of the city, rebuked by India, America and Many European countries including Russia. Taliban cannot capitulate so easily. Taliban, terrorists and miscreants whether state or non state actors should not be condoned, the damage they made shouldn’t be forgotten and they should be punished accordingly.
Before Holbrooke, UK special envoy for Afghanistan and Pakistan Sherard Cowper-Coles, sought India’s advice on the exit strategy ahead of the world summit on January 28th in London. A high level meeting between NATO and Indian officials on exit strategy will take place in New Delhi this month.
